Basics On Psoriasis Herbal Remedies

By Janine Hughes

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. There are many different medical conditions that can impact the skin, such as psoriasis. This refers to a chronic disease that is common and known as a remitting and relapsing condition. It is immune-mediated and characterized by lesions in the skin. Psoriasis herbal remedies can be used for healing and relief.

Types of lesions associated with this disease include scaly, red patches, and plaques and papillose that typically itch. These can be unsightly and embarrassing, especially when on areas that cannot be hidden. Such lesions may vary from minor to major and can cover small or large areas of the body. This disease affects people all across the world.

Inverse, guttate, plaque, pustular and erythrodermic are the five main forms of this. The form and severity of this disease may influence the method of care that is used in managing it. This is recognized as a chronic condition, and may come and go with time. Every person is expected to respond differently to treatment.

Causes for this are not completely understood. It is not just a disorder of the skin. Psoriasis can have a major impact on other systems within the body, which is why it is important to manage it early on. This disease is linked to increase risk of specific cancers, immune-mediated disorders like ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease, and cardiovascular diseases. It is generally recognized as a genetic disease, although it may be influenced or triggered by various environmental factors.

Essentially, psoriasis develops when the immune system believes the normal skin cell is a pathogen. It sends out faulty signs that then lead to the overproduction of new skin cells. This problem is not contagious. Sometimes withdrawal from a corticosteroid, stress or oxidative stress can trigger flare ups of this condition. Injury to skin might also create psoriatic skin changes referred to as Koebner phenomenon.

Those interested in taking a more natural, organic approach to treating this condition may look into various herbal remedies. There are many professionals who can provide patients with sound advice and guidance in treating this disease through non-invasive measures. Before using any type of herbal remedy, people are encouraged to talk with their doctor and do research to learn about how the herbs are to be used and may impact their condition.

A number of herbs and natural remedies can be employed for people struggling with psoriasis. These solutions include, but are not limited to: aloe vera, capsaicin, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, oats, dead sea salts, turmeric, and mahonia aquifolium. Things with antimicrobrial, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties are best for relieving the many signs and symptoms of this disease.

There is no one solution that works best for all. However, many prefer to go the natural route when healing various medical conditions because there are far less side effects to be concerned about. In fact, prescription drugs and some of the medical treatments used for these patients, can exacerbate the problem. It is important that people learn about the herbal remedies they plan to employ. Even some natural solutions can have dangerous interaction with various medications or are not suggested for people who are pregnant or nursing, or have other pre-existing medical problems.
